Members of the girls basketball team approached their Athletic Director, David Viegas, with a fundraising idea. Together after some brainstorming, they came up with the concept of hosting a coaches vs. cancer game involving both boys and girls basketball teams. The students designed special shooting shirts, and they collaborated with a local company to offer these shirts for purchase, with the option to make a donation.
Additionally, the boys basketball coach reached out to Southside HS and invited them to join the initiative. They also purchased their own shirts to participate.
Before the game, one of the students delivered a statement about the coaches vs. cancer initiative, bringing both teams together to support a shared cause.
