About:
Gentry Academy and Duluth Denfeld came together for a powerful Hockey Fights Cancer Night, using the game of hockey to raise awareness, show support, and stand in solidarity with those impacted by cancer.
The special night featured a “Purple Out” theme, with players, fans, and community members encouraged to wear purple in honor of cancer awareness. By dedicating a home game to this cause, the teams transformed the rink into a space of unity, remembrance, and hope—reminding everyone in attendance that hockey can be a platform for far more than competition.
Events like Hockey Fights Cancer Night highlight the role student-athletes play in leading meaningful conversations and supporting important causes within their communities. Through visibility, participation, and shared purpose, both programs demonstrated how high school athletics can inspire compassion and collective action.
This night served as a reminder that when teams come together around a cause, the impact reaches far beyond the scoreboard.
