About:

Photo caption: Brookhaven Elementary School art teacher Gianna Maccarino and her students recently made 248 holiday cards for the residents at the Bellhaven Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care. The cards were donated as part of the Brookhaven Village Association’s Smiles program, which was inaugurated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Smiles program aims to connect elementary school students with Bellhaven residents. Through the program, students are learning compassion for strangers, empathy and civic engagement while brightening the spirits of nursing home residents.
