As we approach the second annual Val Memorial Field Hockey Tournament, our hearts are full as we continue to honor the life and spirit of our beloved U19 player, Valerie Kratochvil. The tournament will take place this Sunday at Diamond in the Pines in Coram, and preparations are well underway for what promises to be a meaningful and memorable day.
Val left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her, and this event serves as a powerful reminder of the love and unity she inspired within our team and community. Our players proudly wear blue ribbons in their hair and on their backpacks — a small but powerful tribute to Val. These symbols of remembrance keep her spirit present at every game and practice.
This year, we’ve also woven Val’s legacy into our team merchandise, incorporating messages like “In Memory of Val”and “We Play for Val” — reminders of the strength, dedication, and kindness she brought to our team every day.
In Val’s honor, we are proud to announce the Val K. Extra Effort Award, a scholarship created to recognize a player who embodies the same relentless work ethic, team spirit, and passion for the sport that defined Val’s time with us. Her parents have lovingly selected this year’s recipient, and we will present the award at the start of Sunday’s tournament.
