About:
Pink Day and Stick it To Cancer Fundraiser!
Our Pink Day Game is planned for our home game on Monday 11/9 and the girls play wearing pink hair ties and shoelaces in honor of the cause and wear their Stick It To Cancer shirts to warm up. Ahead of the game we launched a Stick It To Cancer Webstore Fundraiser with great gear and the option to make a cash donation. Most years we hold a bake sale after school on game day and the girls love baking and selling their pink goodies for the cause – of course this year we aren’t able to do that, but we are so very pleased that we will be able to hold the event!
The money we raise will be divided equally and donated to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Heather Handler (the mother of a former teammate who passed away a couple of years ago) and The Matthew Larson Foundation (CT22) in honor of Casey Taub (a classmate of the HGHS Class of 2019 who passed away during his freshman year).
our 6 Varsity Captains spearheaded the effort and all 50 varsity & JV girls honored the day by buying the custom t-shirts, wearing pink masks, pink shoelaces and pink hair ribbons during the game.
I’d estimate 10-15 hours designing shirts, finding and purchasing laces, hair ribbon, coordinating the girls and honoring the day at the game.
We are pleased to share that despite the many Covid restrictions we raised $760 to be split equally across The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (to honor our 2019 Teammate’s Mom, Heather Handler) and The Matthew Larson Foundation for Pediatric Brain Cancer (to honor our dear friend, Casey Taub, Class of 2019, who passed away his freshman year at Greeley). Last year we were able to donate roughly $1500 (if memory serves) so a good result considering the circumstances!
