For decades, Dover football has thrived as a small community program, dating back to the 1900s. However, recent years have posed a challenge with insufficient players to field an 11-man team, resulting in games played with just eight players.
The team’s coach Christian Jones, a native of Dover, returned with a bold vision to engage the community and pay tribute to former team members who have selflessly served their country as well as police officers, firefighters, and more.
In early September, during their first game, they solemnly called out the names of these dedicated individuals, highlighting their contributions.
This heartfelt gesture extended to a senior member of the team and one junior who will embark on their own service journey. The team proudly wears yellow wristbands as a symbol of unity and gratitude, recognizing the sacrifices made by all who have served and those teammates who are preparing to do the same.
The tribute will culminate in another game on November 3, a final act of recognition for these remarkable individuals and their unwavering commitment to service.
