About:
NEW YORK, NY – This past Sunday, the Iona women’s lacrosse and golf programs had the opportunity to volunteer at the 16th Annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run. The run is held in honor of firefighter Stephen Siller and follows the path he ran from Brooklyn to the World Trade Center where he sacrificed his life to save hundreds of people during the attack.
All of the money raised at the event is donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation that supports first responders and wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
The Iona representatives were placed at the finish line where they cheered on over 30,000 participants of the run. Their energy and positive attitudes helped fuel runner for the final leg of the race. The lacrosse team also had the unique chance to cheer on their coaches and teammates who participated in the 5k run.
The team had an amazing day at an extremely rewarding event and is looking forward to volunteering or running the race next year.
