About:
For the past three years, the athletes have proudly volunteered with Dream League baseball, a program designed for athletes with mental or physical disabilities. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the team has eagerly stepped in as partner players, a role previously filled by the parents of Dream League athletes. While parents undoubtedly enjoyed playing alongside their children, the goal is to ensure that every Dream League athlete has the opportunity to play with a partner player their own age. This shift allows parents to take a step back and simply enjoy watching their children play.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive. The athletes have formed strong bonds with the Dream League players, often receiving heartfelt letters of gratitude at the end of the season. They celebrate these connections with an ice cream party on the final day. Games are held every Saturday at 9 AM throughout May and June, and this activity has become a cornerstone of the team’s community involvement, ranking as highly in importance as their organized team activities and weightlifting sessions.
The team typically has at least 20 players participating each week. The athletes are encouraged to view their role not as volunteering, but as making a commitment to one of the Dream League players. Once a connection is made, the Dream League athletes eagerly look forward to seeing their partner player return week after week.
Being part of Dream League has been incredibly rewarding for the athletes and a highlight of their year. They look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting the incredible athletes of Dream League baseball.
Update: Another great weekend with the Chiefs! We had a packed house Saturday morning at Dream League baseball followed by a great evening tonight for OTA as we ramp up for a busy June!
