About:
The Iroquois Red Hawks Football program continues to show that leadership extends far beyond the field. In early February, student-athletes took part in meaningful service initiatives that brought joy to local seniors and supported families in need through teamwork and compassion.
The team was contacted by Legislator Lindsay Lorigo about an opportunity to support residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, where Valentine’s Day messages have declined in recent years. In response, each player committed to writing at least three handmade Valentine’s cards, sharing kind words and positive messages to brighten someone’s day. The cards were collected and distributed to residents ahead of the holiday, delivering a simple but powerful reminder that they are seen, valued, and appreciated.
In addition, the Red Hawks partnered with the cheer program to adopt local families and help provide a memorable holiday experience. By working together across programs, students demonstrated the power of collaboration and the role athletics can play in strengthening community connections during times of need.
Community service is a cornerstone of the Red Hawks Football program, with student-athletes taking part in service efforts each month. Through these initiatives, they continue to model what it means to lead with heart—making a meaningful impact through teamwork, empathy, and a commitment to others.
