About:
Island Trees Baseball isn’t just about wins and losses—it’s about making a difference in the community. Throughout the season, the team has been actively involved in volunteer work, giving back in meaningful ways that extend far beyond the diamond. From autism awareness initiatives to supporting students with special needs, Island Trees Baseball has been at the forefront of community engagement.
One of their standout initiatives was the Autism Awareness game, unfortunately canceled due to rain. Undeterred, the team organized a challenger clinic where students from kindergarten to twelfth grade with special needs were invited to participate in a baseball/softball clinic. Both the JV and Varsity baseball teams, along with the Varsity softball team, joined forces to make the event a success. A portion of the proceeds from the event was donated to the Nassau/Suffolk Autism Society, furthering their commitment to supporting the cause.
Another impactful endeavor was their participation in the IcanBike program, organized by the Special Education PTA at Island Trees. For the second consecutive year, both the JV and Varsity Baseball teams volunteered to help students with special needs learn how to ride a bike. Each session lasted 90 minutes, and the teams devoted a total of three hours to this rewarding experience.
Additionally, Island Trees Baseball lent a hand at the Stars Baseball Clinic, a program designed for kids with special needs and expertly run by Dean Karras. Players collaborated with Mr. Karras to assist in running the clinic, offering their time and skills to support the participants.
With a total of 17 players on the Junior Varsity team and 21 on Varsity, Island Trees Baseball boasts a roster of dedicated individuals eager to give back to their community. Their collective efforts have made a tangible impact, demonstrating the power of teamwork both on and off the field.
Through their volunteer work, Island Trees Baseball exemplifies the values of compassion, inclusivity, and service. As they continue to inspire others with their actions, they prove that true success is measured not only by victories in the game but by the positive impact they leave on those around them.
