About:

Student members of the Islip High World Language Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Athletes Helping Athletes worked to make the holidays a little brighter for local families in need this year. Under the direction of advisers Sarah Ito (WLHS), Kerri Schmalacker (WLHS), Megan Schierhorst (NHS), Danielle Martello (AHA) and Patti Whitehouse (AHA), the students collected donations from fellow students, faculty, and staff members to provide toys, socks, underwear and diapers for area homeless outreach programs. In addition, the English Honor Society, under the direction of adviser Barbara Wagner, collected books for the drive.

On Dec. 13, Christine Fellini and Timothy Saliani from the Department of Social Services retrieved the donations, which will be distributed to individuals and families who visit the centers in Coram, Deer Park, Riverhead and Smithtown this holiday season.
