About:
Students in the Islip School District are making a meaningful impact through creativity and compassion. Shay Eastman, an officer of the Islip High School Interact Club, recently led an innovative community service initiative aimed at raising awareness and support for individuals affected by breast cancer.
Shay organized fellow student volunteers to place pink plastic flamingos on residents’ lawns throughout the community—an eye-catching and conversation-starting display designed to spark awareness and encourage community engagement around the cause. The unique approach drew attention while inspiring neighbors to learn more and contribute.
Funds raised through the initiative were donated to Mondays at Racine Cancer Care Foundation, a local nonprofit that provides free cancer support services every Monday, including hair treatments, massages, and emotional and emotional support for individuals undergoing cancer treatment.
By combining creativity with purpose, this student-led effort delivered both awareness and tangible support to those in need. The project reflects the power of youth leadership and the positive impact students can have when they take initiative.
Bravo to Shay Eastman and the Interact Club members for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to making a difference in the Islip community.
