About:
In collaboration with the Student Athletic Council (SAC), Athletic Director Joe Ceglia and Joan Spedafino organized a special day of events that brought together Rye Neck’s spring athletic teams to promote community, athletics, and mental health awareness.
Last Saturday, the Rye Neck Union Free School District Athletic Department invited the Foundation to partner with them for Springfest — a day filled with competition, connection, school spirit, and an important focus on mental wellness. The event was a tremendous success, highlighted by every Rye Neck varsity team earning a victory in their match or game. A special congratulations goes out to the Rye Neck boys baseball team for capturing the league championship title.
As part of this year’s Springfest, one athlete from each participating team was recognized as a John Cleaver Kelly “Legend.” This honor celebrates student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional care, compassion, and commitment to the wellbeing of those around them. These individuals consistently make teammates and peers feel welcomed, supported, and heard both on and off the field.
The John Cleaver Kelly “Legend” recognition honors students who lead by example and remain dedicated to improving the mental wellness of their community through kindness, empathy, and everyday actions that positively impact others.
