About:
We run a free modified scrimmage each season for the local modified teams. Our varsity and JV girls officiate and keep stats. We award teams for good skills – not focused on winning or losing – just good playing.
But the most important part is the Pink Out funds raised for Miles Of Hope. This is a local organization that serves the Hudson Valley providing support to breast cancer patients.
This year we raised $1070 in just 3 hours! We are very proud to help this organization. And I am proud of my girls for volunteering their Saturday to help both Miles of Hope and these young volleyball players! *** Win win all around. **
ALSO- we added a new celebration this season. Prior to every home game we honor a local veteran. I reached out to our local chapter of the American Legion. The head of our chapter Mr Reynolds provide us with names and biographies of local veterans. Each game we began by escorting the veteran to center court surrounded by both teams and the crowd. We read their tribute and each were given a JJ hat and a certificate signed by all the players thanking them for their service. We call it PATRIOTS HONORING PATRIOTS because we are the JJ Patriots.
It was awe inspiring to hear the stories of some of the men and women that served. Many of them were graduates of JJ or related to our players. It was a very successful program and we hope to add it to our basketball games too.
Our Varsity and JV girls all participate. That’s a total of 30 girls in the gym from 7:30 – 2:30 that day. The varsity girls also created the certificates that were awarded.
