About:
On March 29, East Fishkill hosted its annual Clean-Up Day, and this year, they aimed to rally as many John Jay High School students as possible. Invitations went out to all teams and clubs, and the response was incredible—nearly 50 students arrived on campus bright and early at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, ready to make a difference.
The PTSA officers generously supported the effort by providing water for the volunteers, while the town supplied garbage bags, gloves, pickers, and T-shirts. Student-athletes from girls volleyball, the newly formed flag football team, boys and girls soccer, and several winter and spring sports teams answered the call. They were divided into work groups and assigned cleanup areas within a half-mile radius of campus, including a local park and a frequently used parking lot.
With dedication and teamwork, the volunteers collected over 30 large bags of garbage! The weather was perfect for the occasion, and as a well-deserved reward, students were treated to a complimentary lunch, provided by a local deli and funded by the town.
“I was overwhelmed by the response from the student athletes as well as the other clubs that participated. They showed pride in their school, took initiative to clean up their campus and demonstrated great civic responsibility by responding to the call from our town government.
