About:
As part of their Random Acts of Kindness efforts, Johnson City High School’s sophomore class officers—Dayana Perez-Morales, Nicki Yu, Sy-nesa Crampton, Nadira Delk, and Cassandra Groome—spearheaded the Third Annual “Valentines for Seniors” Card Drive.
Students rallied the entire school community, reaching out to winter sports teams, classmates, and staff while also providing materials to create handmade cards. With the support of their peers and coaches, teams gathered after school to design thoughtful messages for senior citizens in local nursing homes and adult care facilities.
Thanks to this collective effort, more than 200 handmade cards were created. Sophomore class advisor Trish Carpenter delivered the cards to Senator Webb’s Binghamton office, where they will be added to a larger collection and distributed to residents just in time for Valentine’s Day.
This initiative reflects an ongoing commitment at JCHS to lead with kindness and service. Earlier in the year, athletic teams participated in “Chalk the Walk” for Suicide Prevention Week, and this winter, they continued that momentum by helping seniors feel remembered, valued, and connected.
A special thank you to Trish Carpenter for launching this meaningful initiative and to all the students, staff, and athletic teams who contributed their time and creativity to make a difference.
