About:
West Side Elementary School, in the Cold Spring Harbor Central School District, held their annual Jump Rope for Heart competition in recognition of Heart Health Awareness Month.
To prepare for the competitive fundraising event, the students practiced and improved their jumping skills while learning about the importance of cardiovascular health. On the day of the big contest, the top student contenders gathered for the jump rope contest outside on the school’s sports court as the entire school cheered them on.
Congratulations to fifth grade student Sara McCarey who won the contest by continuously jumping rope for the longest time of 8 minutes and 41 seconds. Kudos to sixth grade student Andrew Bobelian for achieving second place.
Through the fundraising efforts of the students, staff, families and community and physical education teacher Steven Forbes who organized this event, a total of $545 was raised for the American Heart Association. Now that’s something to jump about.
