About:
The Rocky Point School District junior varsity boys baseball team wanted to honor the memory of 10-year-old Lazar LaPenna who died while playing a baseball game. In a game against Kings Park, the teammates wore their old Little League hats and purple shirts (for epilepsy awareness) with Lazar’s initials over the heart.
“This story hit home for a lot of us and we wanted to do something before our game to honor the young man,” Coach Dan Capell said. “After the game our players decided to place their shirts on the mound and stand arm and arm for a moment. It was a great day that was about more than just baseball.”
