About:
New Hyde Park TOP soccer was again fortunate that the Kellenberg Memorial varsity boys soccer team volunteered to help out with practice on Saturday, Sept. 13 The Kellenberg boys come each fall and the Varsity players and the TOP soccer athletes look forward to it every year.
After warm-ups and some fun practice drills, the Varsity athletes challenged the TOP soccer players to a game.
NHP Wildcats TOP Seniors 11, Kellenberg 4. The TOP Seniors had a great game against the Kellenberg players since they had home field advantage.
This match was a blowout for the Seniors. Stefani Egre had quite a game. Stefani scored six times! With Samantha Duggan, Joe Barbella and Nickolas Mazariegos controlling the midfield, Stefani was running into open space, dribbling and receiving excellent passes from her midfielders. Kellenberg answered her offensive attack with four goals, but that wasn’t enough for the varsity players since Billy Russo counterattacked with two goals of his own.
Sebastian Gonzalez celebrated three goals with his usual style.
The Seniors’ defense, David and Mary Glass, Justin Lim, Frank LaPinta, James Fahey and Tristin Yang, were unbeatable with Sebastian Garcia holding strong in the goal.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable game for the seniors and Kellenberg was very gracious in defeat.
