About:
Ken West and Ken East came together for a special Coaches vs. Cancer Night, transforming a cross-town rivalry into a powerful opportunity to raise awareness and support the fight against cancer.
The event was held at Ken West’s new gym and featured both girls’ and boys’ matchups, with the girls tipping off at 5:00 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 6:30 p.m. Fans from both schools packed the stands, creating an atmosphere defined by unity, compassion, and community pride.
Throughout the evening, supporters participated in a 50/50 raffle, with all proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society. The night served as a reminder that school athletics can extend far beyond competition, bringing students, families, and fans together around a cause that affects so many.
At the high school level, Coaches vs. Cancer Week highlights the important role athletics can play in supporting those impacted by cancer. Local programs showed their support in a variety of ways, from wearing pink to fundraising and donating on behalf of the cause.
Choosing a rivalry game for this initiative proved especially meaningful, as it brought the entire community together for a shared purpose. Donations were collected at the door via cash and QR code, and 50/50 raffles were held during each game, reinforcing the impact that collective action can have.
Coaches vs. Cancer Night reflected the power of collaboration and leadership, demonstrating how rival schools can unite to make a meaningful difference while reinforcing the values of service, empathy, and community engagement.
