About:
On January 17, the Kenmore West Varsity and Junior Varsity Girls Basketball teams, led by Ken-Ton Health, Physical Education, & Athletics, took time off the court to give back in a meaningful way. The teams volunteered at the Assumption Church Soup Kitchen in the Riverside–Black Rock community, serving meals, offering kindness, and helping clean up afterward.
Their efforts went far beyond community service hours. These student-athletes stepped into roles that emphasized compassion, humility, and leadership—values that define true champions. Serving lunch and dessert to those in need, they experienced firsthand the impact of giving back, while strengthening their bond as teammates.
Acts like these highlight the powerful role athletics can play in shaping character. Programs that encourage service help student-athletes understand that their influence reaches well beyond the gym or the scoreboard. They become role models not just for younger athletes, but for their entire community.
