About:
The Kenmore West girls’ soccer team is making a significant impact off the field by volunteering their time to assist with the Lindbergh 3rd and 4th grade after-school intramural program. This initiative allows the dedicated student-athletes to help younger students develop their skills, teamwork, and a love for sports, while also fostering a sense of community.
Serving as mentors and role models, the soccer players encourage the younger students to stay active and engaged in physical activities. Their involvement not only strengthens their connection to the local community but also provides valuable leadership opportunities for the high school athletes.
This partnership between Kenmore West girls’ soccer and Lindbergh’s after-school program is a shining example of how student-athletes can use their talents to give back and make a lasting impact on the next generation. During the school year, the high school program brings classes to Lindbergh to teach students during the school day, fostering community building. In the spring, soccer intramurals are set up at three of the district’s elementary and middle schools, run by various coaches.
Former high school players from the previous season are invited to volunteer, taking on responsibilities such as leading warm-ups, designing drills, and coaching small groups. After just two weeks, the high school players have taken over as coaches, organizing a round-robin tournament to build camaraderie and excitement. Their presence not only enhances the experience for the younger students but also strengthens the bond within the soccer program.
