About:
Kennedy High School’s Leadership class and social studies teacher Kara McManus organized a schoolwide participation in the Whip Pediatric Cancer – Heart of Gold program.
This program raises awareness and funds for pediatric cancer.
“Last spring, student Carli Surkis first introduced the program to our Leadership Class and promoting it in September made sense since it is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month,” explained McManus. “With great energy and enthusiasm Carli was able to motivate Leadership students to sell and decorate the Hearts of Gold currently on display in our school. All of the Leadership students did an amazing job with this fundraiser.”
Kennedy students and staff wore gold for Pediatric Cancer Awareness month and each individual that donated displayed a gold heart on the courtyard windows. They raised more than $800 for the program.
