About:
Massapequa High School’s Key Club, which includes studnet athletes, held another successful toy drive. The student organization, which focuses on community service activities, spent two weeks collecting toys before spreading holiday cheer to local children.
Boxes were placed throughout the school and students donated toys for pre-schoolers at the Long Island Head Start program in Amityville. Key Club members wrapped the toys after school and visited the facility Dec. 20 to hand out gifts to 137 children. They also sang Christmas songs and spent some time getting to know the kids.
“I like gift giving” said Key Club Secretary Meghan McClenahan. “It makes you feel good and it makes them feel special for a little while.”
The Key Club, a student community service organization, has partnered with Long Island Head Start for years to provide toys to the children. The students also lead food drives for Island Harvest and participated in the annual breast cancer awareness walk at Jones Beach.
