About:
Student-athletes from La Salle Institute recently combined literacy, mentorship, and community service through a meaningful visit with young students in Troy.
In collaboration with the Lasallian Youth Mentorship Program and in celebration of Read Across America Day, members of the varsity cheerleading team spent time with children at the Sunnyside Child Development Center.
During their visit, the cheerleaders read the children’s book Kind Little Moose, written by local author and La Salle Institute parent Kristin Lee. The student-athletes also spoke with the children about the importance of kindness and respect for others.
The visit was part of the team’s LSI Cheer Kindness Day initiative. In addition to reading with the students, the cheerleaders and their families donated copies of the book so that each child could take one home, helping encourage reading and positive messages beyond the classroom.
Through projects like this, the student-athletes from La Salle Institute continue to demonstrate how athletics can extend far beyond the field. By mentoring younger students, promoting literacy, and sharing messages of kindness, these Cadets are making a positive impact in their community.
