This is the second time this calendar year that our Lakeland Varsity Field Hockey Team volunteered at the “Feeding Westchester” Food Distribution. The first time was in March 2023. That time, I reached out to one of my captains, Emma Numme and said “can you find a volunteer opportunity that our team could do. I reached out to her because I knew she volunteered at several functions.
We decided to do the “Feeding Westchester” because it was a great organization and it was right in our neighborhood – at the Jefferson Valley Mall parking lot.
We went again yesterday in the heat, and EVERYONE was so thankful to have so many extra hands. The girls stuffed bags, put together boxes of various food and helped with loading them into the cars. They helped with setup, cleanup and management of this event. There are so many people in our community that came to receive the food. It is a great opportunity to give back to the community and realize how lucky we are! We were there from about 3:00pm-4:45pm working with the adult volunteers and a few other student volunteers.We then went to practice at Lakeland High School!
