About:
There were 17 total girls who helped out with the cause, the whole team.
They all got pink caps that they would wear during the meet then it was $1 minimum to sign their cap. Any larger donations were also welcomed, and they definitely received some larger ones.
We also did a “Chuck a Duck” during our diving break (essentially halftime as it’s halfway through the meet) where we charged $5 for a bag of rubber ducks. We then had two of the girls float in the middle of the pool, and from our second floor bleachers anyone who had bought ducks had the chance to throw them into a lifeguard ring which the girls were holding onto. It runs as a 50/50 so if you got your duck into the ring you win 50 percent of the money raised by the Chuck a Duck, and the other 50 percent was donated along with the other money from the caps.
Lancaster has a great connection with the American Cancer Society and a lot of the sports teams do great things when it comes to donating. This is my first year as head coach of the girls team, and it was truly awesome to see how into it the girls got. I have a long family history of cancer in my family as I’m sure a lot of us do, and the fact that they took it so seriously was phenomenal. We also had a mini competition as the top two fundraisers did get to push myself and my assistant coach Maddy Tryjankowski into the pool at the end. The girls have historically done the event to raise awareness for breast cancer, and this year with the other teams from Lancaster decided to donate to the American Cancer Society.
Total donations were $1,539 raised starting on Saturday 10/1 and finished on Friday 10/7.
