About:
Our entire varsity baseball team visited some Elementary School classrooms before practice! It is a tradition that I started with our baseball program about three years ago. All 14 of our players took part in this year’s elementary visit.
I break the players up into the participating teachers’ classrooms. They then participate in whatever the teacher has planned for that time. Some of the players read books to the students, help them with their math/homework, help the class with a project, and have to answer questions in a show-and-tell format. The ES students love to talk to our MHS students and have them participate in their day … Their former teachers like to see them also!
The players visit the classrooms for about 1 hour to 1:30 hours. We only have the opportunity to do it once due to the start of the baseball season. Looking to expand in the future.
It’s all about connecting our athletes to a younger generation of kids. We strive to build a community and anytime we can connect our middle/high school to our elementary school it’s a win/win. To see the elementary kids’ faces with these athletes walking down their hall in full uniform fills my heart. I went to that elementary school when I grew up, and if I had that opportunity to meet a varsity athlete, it would have stuck with me for a lifetime. Our goal is to create those life-long opportunities/memories for the younger generations of bulldogs.
