About:
The Golden Canes are a group of student athletes dedicated to raising awareness about childhood cancer and money for the organizations that support kids fighting cancer. Six years ago, at the age of 9, Sydney Anastasia won her battle against cancer with the support of her family, friends and some amazing charities. Today, Sydney, Sean Bass, Kaitlyn McDermott and their friends are paying it forward.
Last year they raised over $3000 for childhood cancer charities such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer and they are back at it this year. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they had to get creative in their fundraising efforts but they pulled it off!
During National Believe Week, the Golden Canes ran a letter writing campaign in their neighborhoods, at Westhampton Beach High School, and at the East Moriches Elementary and Middle schools and helped to raise about $1300 for the Make-A-Wish foundation, which grants wishes for critically ill children. During National Believe Believe Week, Macy’s donates $2 to Make-A-Wish for every letter to Santa written and sent through Macy’s. The Golden Canes collected and delivered over 644 leters to Macy’s! If they win this video challenge, they plan to donate the prize to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and will hopefully donate another $3000- so please vote!!!
And that’s not all they have been up to. Back in September, the Golden Canes participated in the Million Mile fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer. They collected donations, ran a lemonade stand and a charity yard sale, and raised $3000 for the nonprofit which is dedicated to childhood cancer research. Future plans include activities to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities and MSK Kids (the pediatric unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital), where Sydney stayed and was treated during her battle with cancer.
So please vote today and every day this week and help these #kidshelpingkidsfightcancer. Thank you!!!
