About:
Lift For Autism is a weight lifting competition held at Arlington High School that is raising money for autism awareness. It was founded by Arlington senior Sara Bernardi who had come up with the idea in her Civic Engagement and Leadership class when her teacher Mrs. Bellino introduced the assignment of a Capstone Project. Since then, Lift For Autism has become much more than just an assignment. With the help of Arlington’s Varsity Football Coach Mr. Morano and Athletic Director Mr. Cring, Sara has been able to make her idea a reality. All proceeds from the event will be donated to a nonprofit organization called ASAN (Autism Self Advocacy Network). ASAN is an organization run by and for autistic people. They focus on creating a world in which autistic voices are heard and have equal access, rights, and opportunities. The event is open to all athletes both boys and girls from Arlington, Ketcham, and John Jay High Schools. The doors for the event open at 11a.m and the actual event will start at 1p.m on Sunday March 6th of 2022. There will be concessions for sale as well as prizes given out to the winners! If you wish to register, please go to Arlington High School’s athletics website or just use this link: https://
“Everything went very well; we had a very good turnout and raised around $4000! We did raffles and sold t-shirts and Jewelry donated by a teacher as well as concessions which were all donated from various places! I was super excited and am super proud of what I have accomplished and I would love to do something again like this in the future! Definitely a great learning experience!” —
