About:
On Feb. 14, Island Park’s Lincoln Orens Middle School participated in P.S. I Love You Day – an annual effort to spread awareness about the importance of mental health. Students, faculty and staff members wore purple in their joint support of kindness, self-worth and self-care in creating a positive school climate and fostering mental wellness.
A Mental Health Team comprised of School Social Worker Allison Janofsky, Guidance Counselor Andrea Porzelt and School Psychologist Colleen Kunz were stationed at a table during lunch periods and invited students to stop by and write positive messages that will be displayed on a bulletin board in the guidance area.
The week leading up to P.S. I Love You Day featured many activities tied to the theme. Announcements focused on mental health and self-care and students were encouraged to make new friends. They also practiced deep breathing for better focus and positive mindsets. This is one of many districtwide initiatives that embrace mental health and good character.
