About:
A growing understanding to assist both locally and on an international level is what prompts members of the Shoreham-Wading River High School Global Awareness Club to do what they do. Most recently, students collected hundreds of needed toiletries for Riverhead’s Maureen’s Haven, supporting the organization’s mission of embracing the values of human dignity, respect, service, compassion, teamwork, diversity and love.
The student-leaders were also driven to sell baked goods at the recent high school orchestra/choir concert and basketball game to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Thanks to the kindness and support of the SWR community, the students raised $736 for Save the Children’s efforts in Ukraine.
“These students continue to impress me with their humanitarian work both locally and internationally,” said club adviser Brenna Gilroy. “We plan to continue fundraising for this organization for a few months.”
