About:
Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District kept a holiday tradition alive by raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The donation was presented to a representative from the organization at the school’s Make-A-Wish concert on Dec. 22.
In November, Lockhart students participated in a walk-a-thon and received pledges. That turned into $4,401 that was presented by Student Council members to Kathie Lombardi, the manager of national and community alliances for Make-A-Wish. She talked about an 11-year-old boy named Sean who received a “super cool” birthday party as a result of last year’s donation from the school. Students then heard about wishes they could fulfill this year and voted.
Principal Stephen Scarallo said that in the last 29 years, the school has raised $112,000 for Make-A-Wish.
“This school community is very generous,” he said.
