About:
The Longwood High School Football team took a break from preparing for its Week 8 matchup to make a meaningful impact beyond the field, volunteering at West Middle Island Elementary School’s Abilities Awareness Day.
The Lions spent time with younger students, leading interactive stations focused on disability awareness, inclusion, and celebrating the unique abilities of every individual.
Focusing on Abilities, Not Limitations
During the event, Longwood football players helped elementary students learn about the importance of understanding and respecting people with different abilities.
The student-athletes led stations designed to promote disability awareness, encourage inclusion, and reinforce a powerful message: Focus on what people CAN do, not what they can’t do.
Through these activities, the Lions helped younger students recognize the importance of kindness, acceptance, and creating a community where everyone feels valued.
Lions Lead by Example
Rather than focusing solely on their upcoming football game, the Longwood players dedicated their time to supporting younger students within their school district.
By serving as mentors and positive role models, the athletes demonstrated that leadership extends well beyond the football field.
Their involvement helped reinforce the importance of building an inclusive school community where students of all abilities are welcomed, respected, and encouraged.
