About:
Longwood High School student-athletes are taking a stand for mental health awareness through Morgan’s Message, an initiative dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health in athletics.
At the beginning of the school year, a Google Classroom was created for student-athletes interested in Morgan’s Message and the potential formation of a club. The response has been overwhelming, with many students joining and actively participating in discussions about upcoming events, open office hours, and ways to support one another. This platform has provided a consistent line of communication for student-athletes to stay informed and engaged in the mission.
Last year, dedication games were successfully hosted for the Girls Lacrosse and Softball teams, bringing awareness to the importance of mental health within sports. This year, efforts have expanded to include dedication games for Girls Soccer (JV and Varsity), Varsity Football, and Girls Volleyball (JV and Varsity). These games have served as powerful moments for athletes to stand in solidarity, raise awareness, and encourage open conversations about mental health.
Beyond the field, advocacy has extended into the broader community. Student-athletes proudly represented Morgan’s Message at two significant local events—Longwood’s Homecoming and the Community BBQ in September. These gatherings provided valuable opportunities to educate the community, engage with supporters, and spread the message of mental health awareness beyond the school grounds.
Looking ahead to the Spring season, commitment to the cause continues to grow. Plans are already underway to host additional dedication games and organize a special Day of Awareness within the school building. This initiative aims to bring students, staff, and the entire Longwood community together to foster a culture of understanding, support, and empowerment regarding mental health in athletics.
Through dedication, teamwork, and a shared mission, Longwood student-athletes are making a meaningful impact, proving that mental health matters just as much as physical health in sports. More updates will follow as advocacy, education, and inspiration continue through Morgan’s Message.
