About:

Girls Basketball getting it done during the annual Christmas Tree Pick Up.

Although there are some great community service aspects to it, it is also very much a fundraiser for both the girls basketball program and an LS class club. We have some wonderful company partners of local landscapers, who volunteer their time and equipment (trucks especially), to help us drive around the community and pick up Christmas trees a week or so into the new year. Families then make a donation for the tree pickup. It is a large team effort with so many companies, families and students donating their time and equipment, but the class club advisors and students do such a great job organizing it. The basketball program provides a lot of the physical labor on the day of the pickup!

For the trees, we had about 25 girls from the program, along with coaches, some parents and some very helpful local landscaping/tree companies. We also had probably another 10 from the Class of 2026 club on that day, in addition to some fantastic club advisors and participants who were very helpful in organizing all the logistics leading up to it (especially Ms. Thompson). In total, it was probably about 3 hours on that day, but countless hours of prep leading up to it.
** The tree fundraiser is a good event for the community, but we do still use it as a fundraiser for the girls basketball program and class clubs, so although it is volunteering, there is a fundraising aspect to it.
