About:
This was the first year we got the Football Families involved with Blessing Brigade. But, we are hoping to build a long lasting relationship with the football program/families and the Blessing Brigade.Blessing Brigade locally collects much needed items for St Joseph House and the Veterans Housing Coalition. This year LSI Football got involved by donating items and dropping them off, ordered from an Amazon Wish List, or donated some money and I was able to purchase needed items to bring to the “Fill the Truck” event. We had a handful of boys volunteer to help load the truck. With Covid and everything going on we didn’t want to get too have too many kids there.Dave and Siobhan LeBlanc, who are long time friends of my family, have been running the local Blessing Brigade. Each year their efforts have seen the Blessing Brigade grow more and more. We are excited and busy planning ways to get the LSI Football program for the coming year.We don’t have a tally on what was collected in terms of items or Amazon orders. There happened to be some Alumni of LSI at the event as well. The Alum are always happy to see young Cadets and share their stories. It’s such a special bond across generations. As we look to 2021 (and life returning to some degree of normal) we are discussing a summer BBQ to raise funds where the boys can volunteer to work as well as collecting donations in our concession all throughout the football season. Most of the LSI sports programs do something each of their seasons. From Coaches vs. Cancer events to our lager events like to Hockey Program’s Cadets for Vets. An annual fundraiser game also supporting the Albany Veterans Housing Coalition. We are not sure what will happen this year because of COVID. But, hopefully we can still raise money.
