About:
Lynbrook elementary schoolers showcased a heartfelt tribute to visiting local veterans through song and poetry in observance of Veterans Day on Nov. 8.
At Waverly Park, West End and Marion Street schools, students invited their veteran family members to the school for a morning breakfast. Veterans shared their experience and wisdom with the younger generation through meaningful discussions. During each school’s assembly, students gathered in song following opening addresses from members of the respective Student Councils. At West End, each veteran received an individual honor before the fifth-grade chorus sang “Proud of Our Veterans.” A moment of silence was held before students played a rendition of “Taps” and the student-led color guard dismissed. At Marion Street, students assembled paper poppy flowers to share with veterans and fill the school’s flowerpots. Every class at each school gathered to participate in their respective assemblies, which featured representation of each branch of the United States armed services.
