About:
I wanted to start something this year between both Mahopac and Carmel to continue to build a community and to remind athletes’ and those watching what really is important. We tend to forget how much it means to put a jersey on to represent the community we all belong to, or how much it means to wake up each day and be able to do what we are doing day in and day out without really much worry. We, unfortunately, have 4 families who have been diagnosed with Cancer. 3 students of Carmel and 1 of our basketball players Mother.
This event is to not just support those specific family, but for those around our community struggling to find strength, questioning how much hope they have. To remind those not just in OUR communities but around the world that WE are behind them in the fight. That WE never stop reminding ourselves how blessed we truly are to lace our shoes, put our jerseys on, and play each day. Most importantly, that WE remember what life really is about. Giving back to those who need it most.
Each game, hopefully, the 10 AM, and 4PM so far, are going to be having an honoary captain. The 10 AM game will have one of our students battling cancer, Danny Thut, be our honorary captain and walk to half court, be in our locker room, and essentially receive a game ball at the end, while our 4 PM game will have Amelia Brennock, another student of Carmel, join our girls Varsity team at halfcourt and in the locker room as well. We are awaiting our other student, Montana, to join our Boys’ Varsity team at 2 PM for their honorary captain as well.
Regardless of the outcome, we hope that the entire surrounding communities join us in helping out these families. We will end up distributing a donation to every family battling in Carmel, as well as a donation to the American Cancer Society for more research help. WE just hope to teach those that this game means more then the record, the wins and losses, we hope that this is a chain reaction for these kids to continue to grow in this life and never forget to reach a helping hand out to those who need it most! I have bought ALL 8 teams warm up shirts to wear for both THIS WEEKEND and the 18th as MAHOPAC hosts ANOTHER Cancer event at their place too!
