About:
During the season Mahopac Varsity Softball hosted a fundraiser game for Community Cares, a non-for-profit organization that provides help for families of school-aged children who have a parent dealing with cancer or other major medical illnesses. We sold shirts prior to the game, and then baked goods and raffle tickets during the game with all of the proceeds going to Community Cares. All 12 girls participated in this event, and on May 16 we presented community cares with a 500.00 check.
In addition, We also teamed up with Friends of Jaclyn, a non-for-profit organization that strives to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric cancers and life threatening diseases, and hosted a dedication/fundraiser game. Both of these events we now plan to make annual; next year we hope to “adopt” a child to our team.
These student athletes put others’ needs ahead of their own daily. Senior Abby Mastropietro is a Mahopac Volunteer Firefighter and EMT. Abby’s passion for helping her community is evident as she has 650 hours of community service at this time. While senior Gianna Tardio balances her athletics with 3 National Honor Society Clubs and a course load of AP classes, she is also an active volunteer for the Mahopac Elementary Schools, as well as a Volunteer for the Ossining Ambulance Corp. She currently has 702 hours of community service. Gianna’s passion is deeply rooted in helping others; in the fall she will be attending Siena College where she was accepted into the 6 Year Physician’s Assistant Program. Senior Alexis MacIndoe can be found on her free time volunteering at Recycled Paws Rescue where she bathes and brushes all of the dogs and cats. This is just a highlight of three of our incredible athletes. The teams as a whole has over 2,00 hours of community service, and are each members of at least one club and council in school.
