Ocean Avenue, Malverne
On Jan. 30, Malverne High School welcomed students from Uniondale High School for an ongoing Girls Policy Network collaboration focused on developing solutions for issues within their schools and communities they would like to see improved.
The issues that the students are tackling include road safety in our communities, student union initiatives and gender equality in sports and academics in schools.
The participants were honored to have Nassau County Legislator Siela A. Bynoe and a representative from the office of Assemblywoman Taylor Darling present to help facilitate the student workshop and provide guidance as the students prepare their presentations. Assemblywoman Darling, who was unable to join in person due to meetings in Albany, took a break from her state business to greet the students live over Facetime.
The students are looking forward to their next meeting in February where they will work with renowned author and speaker Monique Couvson and are preparing for a trip to Washington D.C. in March to attend a Voices4Equity event.
