About:
Thanks to the efforts of students and staff at Manetuck Elementary School in the West Islip School District, a rehabilitated seal made his way back to the ocean during a release event held at Robert Moses State Park on June 21.
Manetuck Elementary School students raised $10,000 for the New York Marine Rescue Center to help rehabilitate the baby seal, who was found in Southampton in early March. In turn, the students had the opportunity to name the seal. The students chose the name Roman, a tribute to the Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Romanelli.
The community service club has raised more than $75,000 during the past 18 years to help rehabilitate sea animals.
