About:
We had all 3 levels participate (modified, J.V. and Varsity. Approximately 40 athletes (we are a very small school).
We received information on Operation Gratitude On October 1st and worked on the writing campaign until October 9th. Due to the severe power outages in the area, some athletes are still finishing up their letters now.
We chose Operation Gratitude because it was a way to help while still abiding to the social distancing guidelines set forth by NYS. As we are 1 of 2 leagues in the Capital District that chose to run its soccer season in the fall, we felt it was super important to continue our tradition of athletes participating in community service.
In the past we have always run the Teal Ribbon Run to help fight ovarian cancer. However, this year it was held virtually and before our season started. In addition, the team realizes how important it is to recognize the people in our world that keep us healthy and safe. Without them we know we would not be able to have any type of sports season. The words “thank you” go a long way in making others feel appreciated and recognized. With this in mind, members of the girls soccer program wrote letters to either military personnel or first responders thanking them for all they have done, especially in light of recent COVID 19 pandemic. They let them know how their courage and sacrifice has helped better the lives of school children everywhere.
