About:
Join in on the excitement of the annual charity basketball game, where faculty and staff from Schodack come together for a friendly match. No basketball skills required – just a willingness to have fun!
WHY THEY DO IT?
All proceeds from the event, including admission fees, concessions, and halftime activities, support our local food bank, the Anchor. This event serves as one of the largest annual contributions in terms of both cash and food items.
THIS YEAR’S SUCCESS:
In their latest ‘Hoops against Hunger’ event, the Schodack community rallied together to raise a record-breaking $5,054.25 for the Anchor, along with collecting over 20 boxes of canned and non-perishable food items. This year’s achievement marks an all-time high since the event’s inception in 2008-2009.
LEADING THE CHARGE:
Patrick Austin, a dedicated 10th-grade Social Studies teacher with 16 years of experience at the school, spearheaded the organization of this event. In addition to teaching, Patrick also coaches varsity golf and softball teams.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT:
With an abundance of student and teacher volunteers assisting with various tasks such as admissions, concessions, and more, the event ran smoothly. Generous donations from local businesses, including Top Form and Crisp Cannoli, contributed to the success of the event. The packed venue showcased the strong community spirit that defines Schodack. It’s events like these that highlight the greatness of our small town – Schodack truly is an incredible place!
ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:
Four senior basketball players, two boys and two girls, took on coaching duties for the two teams, while three senior basketball players, all boys, refereed the game. The event drew in hundreds of attendees, including students from both the elementary school and the Jr./Sr. HS building. Held from 6 PM to 10 PM on Friday, March 8, the event was a memorable evening for all involved.
