About:
Students from Massapequa High School’s Physical Education Leadership class recently made a positive impact in their community by visiting Birch Lane Elementary School, where they helped lead engaging, team-based activities for third- and fifth-grade students during physical education classes.
During the visit, high school student-leaders took on mentorship roles, guiding younger students through cooperative games and fitness challenges designed to promote teamwork, communication, and healthy lifestyles. The experience provided elementary students with positive role models while also giving Massapequa students valuable opportunities to develop leadership and instructional skills.
By stepping into leadership roles and working directly with younger peers, the high school students helped foster confidence, inclusion, and school-community connection. Initiatives like this highlight the meaningful ways student-athletes and student leaders can extend their influence beyond their own campus — inspiring younger students while strengthening a culture of service and mentorship.
