About:

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2016) – Molloy’s men’s basketball team hosted the Rockaway Beach Special Olympics for a clinic on Friday (Oct. 21). The team welcomed approximately 50 people from the Brooklyn and Queens area to watch the Lions practice as well as work hands on with the athletes on a number of drills.

The men’s basketball team helped to coach the Special Olympics group on various aspects of basketball such as dribbling and shooting. The two teams also came together to play a three-on-three game. “Having the opportunity to work with them taught us just as much if not more than we were able to teach them,” said senior Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.). “The energy and positivity the Special Athletes brought to us is something the entire team will carry into our season.” The members of the Special Olympics also enjoyed watching the Molloy team execute a number of dunks before coming together for a pizza party.

“The event was a great learning experience for both Molloy College and the Special Olympics group,” said Charlie Marquardt, Head Men’s Basketball Coach. “We shared learning, fun, and food through the game of basketball. I would like to extend a special thank you to Joe Featherston of the Rockaway Beach Special Olympics for making this event a reality.”
