About:
Juniors from Mepham High School’s School and Community Leadership program recently stepped out of the classroom and into the dirt—giving back to the community in a hands-on way at Island Harvest Farm.
Led by teacher Jackie Geller, the students spent the day preparing four rows of spring planting across the two-acre farm. Their efforts included weeding, turning over soil, laying mulch, and repotting herbs and vegetables—all in support of Island Harvest’s mission to combat food insecurity across Long Island.
By getting involved at the farm, these young leaders not only supported a vital community resource but also gained firsthand experience in teamwork, service, and sustainable practices. Their hard work is planting the seeds for a stronger, more food-secure future for many.
This is what leadership in action looks like—well done, Pirates!
