About:
Student leaders at Wellington C. Mepham High School are turning compassion into action—bringing comfort and care to children facing hospital stays through a heartfelt partnership with the Little Saint Nick Foundation.
Over the course of six weeks, members of the Mepham Leo Club organized a donation drive to collect items for “anti-anxiety bags” designed to support young patients during difficult hospital visits. The bags included comforting essentials such as fidget toys, crayons, coloring books, stuffed animals, and other small items intended to help ease stress and provide comfort.
The initiative was led by senior Alexis Skreckoski, the club’s vice president, who first became involved with the Little Saint Nick Foundation through volunteer work with her dance studio. Inspired by the organization’s mission, Alexis introduced the project to the Leo Club, helping establish what has now become a second consecutive year of support at Mepham High School.
Students played an active role throughout every stage of the initiative—from organizing and promoting the donation drive to assembling the bags with care and compassion. The Little Saint Nick Foundation supplied the bags and greeting cards, while club members added personalized handwritten messages to help brighten each child’s day.
In addition to collecting donations over several weeks, students dedicated two after-school meetings—totaling approximately three hours—to creating handmade cards for the bags. Alexis also spent additional time organizing and counting donated items before helping package each completed bag for distribution.
The completed bags are delivered to hospitals and emergency rooms across the region, helping provide comfort and reassurance to children and families during challenging moments.
While the exact number of contributors may not be known, the strong participation from students throughout the project highlighted the Mepham Leo Club’s commitment to service, leadership, and community impact.
As Alexis prepares to graduate, the club hopes to continue and expand its partnership with the Little Saint Nick Foundation in the years ahead—building on a meaningful initiative that continues to make a difference in the lives of others.
Through efforts like this, Mepham students are demonstrating how student-led service can create a lasting impact—spreading kindness, compassion, and hope to children who need it most.
