About:
For Mia Ann Betancourt, community service became an opportunity to inspire confidence, connection, and growth in younger athletes through the power of sports.
Since before her freshman year of high school, Mia has volunteered at multiple booster club summer sports camps in her community, dedicating her time to helping young athletes learn and grow both on and off the field. Her involvement included girls basketball camps, co-ed basketball camps, flag football camps, and co-ed golf camps, where she served as a counselor and mentor to participating students.
Each camp ran four days a week for four hours a day, and throughout her high school career, Mia accumulated a total of 64 hours of community service. But for her, the experience was never about the hours earned — it was about the impact created.
Working closely with younger athletes allowed Mia to build meaningful relationships and help campers gain confidence in themselves. Watching children who initially arrived shy and reserved gradually open up, become more outgoing, and form friendships by the end of the week became the most rewarding part of her service experience.
Through her dedication and positive leadership, Mia helped create an encouraging and welcoming environment where young athletes felt supported, included, and empowered to step outside of their comfort zones.
Her commitment to mentoring youth through athletics highlights the important role student-athletes can play in strengthening their communities and inspiring the next generation.
