About:
Coordinated by members of the National Junior Honor Society (which includes student athletes, along with their adviser Carlee Wallenstein, Amityville’s Edmund W. Miles Middle School raised $1,300 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Coins for Wishes program.
In an effort to raise money for this charity while engaging in friendly competition within their school community, students in their homerooms were encouraged to raise funds for the organization. Jack Zider’s homeroom class collectively raised the most with a total of $500, which allowed them to participate in a “Castle Ball” game against their teachers.
Students in the NJHS had the opportunity to meet the two Make-A-Wish children who would benefit from their contributions during a gathering at TD Bank in Lake Ronkonkoma. Their donations will help send a 17-year-old girl to Comic-Con in California this July and a 9-year-old boy whose wish is to go to Legoland.
“The kids work so hard every year to raise money for charity” said Wallenstein.
